Info
Playing with words is merely to examine the way the mind functions, to mirror a particle of the world as the mind perceives it. In the same way, the world is just not the sum of the things that are in it. It is the infinitely complex network of connections among them. (Paul Auster: The Invention of Solitude)
What happens if words suddenly lose their meanings as a result of constant repetition. What transformations and neologisms become possible at this moment?
In A Gesture That Is Nothing But A Threat the two Portuguese choreographers and dancers subject language to the rules of movement composition: the words are freed from their meaning definitions and re-choreographed. While the hierarchies of the individual linguistic and gestural elements rearrange themselves, surprising, new sound material and structures arise from the apparent chaos. A game emerges that, in the constant interaction of movement and language, word and gesture, images and their meanings, produces ever new combinations and enjoyably shows us the complexity of our thinking.
