On Celebration and Lamentation starts with the question: What can we understand about faith and faith practice through appropriating different kinds of movement material connected to faith and physical practices related to different systems of belief? In a series of public performative practices the dancer and choreographer Alexander Gottfarb opens up his work space to an audience, creating a situation where his movement and dance practice as well as its reception are supposed to initiate an exchange. The aim is to investigate in and play with different physical expressions and bring new meaning and understanding to movements used in faith practice. In the search for inter-physical relations, he will cross-reference movement material, according to phenomena generally appearing in faith practice, such as purification and cleaning, celebration and thanksgiving or lamentation and complaint.
