Info
Hiroaki Umeda has made an international name for himself in recent years with the visuality and sensual experience that characterise his works. Influenced by fine art and high tech, in the space between choreography, sound, image and lighting design, the Japanese choreographer and media artist creates stage sets that are always also intensive sensual and cognitive spaces of experience.
In while going to a condition, he confronts high choreographic precision with a dynamic interplay with our perception of time: in the alternation of rapid and slow movements and accentuated by moments of stillness, time extends during the transformation taking place on stage and triggers a feeling disorientation.
A minimalist language of movement of contemporary dance and the technique of hip hop meet in the group work 2. repulsion. Based on his general view of the body as an “object”, which attempts to eliminate prejudices and to illuminate only purely physical and functional possibilities, Hiroaki Umeda seeks out the intersections between the worlds of movement, explores the possibilities of hip hop and at the same time works with the special energies and very individual movement patterns of the genre.
