Recent theoretical publications on dance and performance practice a shift in vocabulary: A wide range of ‚negative’ terms is used to describe and analyse current artistic strategies.
Questioning the performativity and literal choreographic force of such a language on art, dance scholar Constanze Schellow and choreographer Sara Manente propose a change of perspective. What if the academical discourse on dance is reincorporated by artistic practice and reflected choreographically?
Starting from a list of 56 words from ‚absence’ to ‚zero’, extracted by Constanze Schellow from dance theory writings, they are testing out alternative modes of bringing the critical potentials of their specific practices into a shared space.
