In der Lecture Performance macht Deborah Hay ihr Verständnis von Tanz als Form des politischen Aktivismus im Zusammenhang mit ihrer eigenen künstlerischen Praxis zum Thema: "As a choreographer my question at the time I created the Lecture on the Performance of Beauty was: “Can a formal and stimulating adherence to a prescribed set of spatial and hypothetical conditions be seen as choreography even if there is no learned movement?” As a person suffering the consequences of the Bush administration, I wanted my voice to be heard.” (Deborah Hay)
