Im Rahmen von: Solo? On bodies and their doubles in contemporary dance
In November the Tanzquartier Wien turns to a several-day programmatic emphasis on the solo, a form and (production) practice that has accompanied contemporary dance since the start of the 20th century and has repeatedly also critically questioned it: as a place of concentrated formulation of artistic and body-theory designs, of experiments or virtuosity but also with regard to the negotiation of social debates about individuality, community and participation or of the stylisation of the (female) body.
Thus some questions do not seem to have lost their importance today: What does raising the voice and the body in dance mean? With what methods does that happen and who or what is this statement addressed to? How does the solo formulate itself as a manifesto of an individual body that nevertheless only exists in its own resonance?
The focus of the invited works is not just on the form of the solo but above all the related process of the “finding into the form”: elements and practices of conveying and reformulation, of reflecting and transformation, which also question historical as well as present-day ideologies and utopias of an individual, natural and independent body.
From various perspectives they approach the solo and, accompanied by a discursive programme, show the pointedness of contemporary soloist dance practice.
